Receptionist - Maplewood House, Abbotsford

WestCana is looking for Part-time Receptionist with a passion for the elderly to join our team in Long Term Care in Abbotsford

We are looking for someone who can starts as soon as possible and is able to pick up shift in the last minute!

Positions Information:

  • Part-time, Saturday and Sunday, 9am - 5pm
  • Wage: $24.34
  • Location of Work: 1919 Jackson Street, Abbotsford, B.C., V2S 2Z8

Receptionist Must Haves:

  • Completion of a high school diploma
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in the utilization of Microsoft Word and Intermediate in Excel.
  • Minimum 40wpm keyboarding skills
  • Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbal and written.
  • Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations. 

Receptionist Nice to Haves:

  • Completion of a recognized administrative/office assistant program.
  • Experience in a geriatric setting.

Receptionist Responsibilities:

  • Operates switchboard by connecting incoming calls to appropriate locals and placing outgoing calls as requested; transfers calls and takes messages as required.
  • Operates the public address system and other paging devices such as the Nurse call system to locate personnel as required.
  • Follows established communications procedures in emergency situations such as, fire, bomb threats and disasters.
  • Provides directions to residents and the public regarding the location of various departments and services.
  • Answers inquiries, both in person and by telephone, regarding information such as resident trust accounts, room numbers, visiting hours.
  • Performs a variety of typing and data entry duties as directed, including correspondence, forms and residents’ records etc 
  • Handles monies for residents’ Rent and Non-Rent charges, as well as deposits to and withdrawals from residents’ trust accounts, issuing the appropriate receipts for these transactions. 
  • Monitors and reports residents’ activity and behaviors in the Reception/Lounge area. Watches for wandering residents leaving the facility, brings back residents who wander or reports to Nursing if a resident elopes and cannot be returned.
  • Calls in and replaces Team Members as required following the “Casual Call-In” Procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of Resident and Team Member safety. Ensures potential hazards are reported as per the facility procedures to facility Administration and the Care Manager.
